We always enjoy capturing drone footage, and we pride ourselves on working quickly and safely when flying. If you would like to know more on how GMi can help you with your next video project, be it on the ground or above it drop us a line. So come fly with us, we would love to hear from you!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn in the City of Bunbury!

Summer has passed and without getting to hot which was nice for all the filming and droning around the state we have been doing (keep your eyes peeled to see some of that here soon!).

So since we are now in Autumn it’s probably time to show you the next video in the Bunbury Events line, this one covers the upcoming events in, yes you guessed it, Autumn.

ABC Landline and the Blackwood Basin Group

Recently the ABC aired a story on its Landline program about the work being undertaken by the Blackwood Basin Group and Talison Lithium to turn old open cut pits into wetlands for rare and endangered bird life and native fish species.

GEO Media interactive (GMi) has been documenting the project over a few years now and was happy to help by providing vision to help tell the story. Congratulations to both the Blackwood Basin Group and Talison Lithium for the spectacular work done converting the area!

Watch the video here.

Eye in the sky with GMi – Meet the Mavic pro

The boys here at GMi have got another drone!

This time we have selected the latest from DJI: the Mavic Pro. This is a truly incredible drone capable of some amazing things. It has a 27 minute flight time, is so compact it fits into a backpack and has the ability to fly indoors. INDOORS!!!… Oh and the pictures look great too, both inside, and out in the field at 4K!

We have been having a lot of fun here in the office with that feature and are truly amazed with what this new kit can achieve. If you would like to talk to us about what it can do for you and your project drop us a line here we would love to hear from you! Even if its just to talk about drones! Drones that fly INDOORS!!!

The End (2016) is Nigh!

As 2016 winds to a close 2017 will see something else spin up. Something with props perhaps?

Exploring 4

The boys here at GMi are itching to get the hotly anticipated new DJI drone in there hands. With stunning images, a smaller footprint for easier travel and considerably longer flight times Carl and the Marks are trying to be patient while we await our delivery. In the meantime they have been watching some of the stunning footage some of the lucky people around the world (who have already received their drones) have been capturing. Check out this great one by Philip Bloom.

2016 saw the boys on filming all over our great state be it in the Kimberley Region, to Broome and the famous Cable Beach, to Dirk Hartog Island during the 400th Anniversary of landing there, back out to the desert to see a land reclaimed, to our states foodbowl heartlands or to our lush southern forests and stunning coastlines, 2016 has been a truly amazing year!

Eagles Skyribbon

So as 2017 rolls in with a new drone a new AVID editing suite, and another new camera on the horizon GMi has never been better suited to tell your story. So please enjoy the end of year festivities, travel safe and drop us a line in the new year we would love to hear from you!

Mark and Carl have just returned from filming in Broome in WA’s pituresque Kimberley region with GMi’s new Panasonic 4k camera. They spent just under a week in filming in a variety of conditions and locations (most of which were hot!) and the new Panasonic DVX200 camera performed beautifully in all of them.

Filming at Broome Port.

It was GMi’s first working trip into our states top end, but 2016 will see us spend quite a bit more time up in the tropics. More info about those trips later in the year.

The filming was part of a production for the new Kimberley Ports Authority and the Port of Broome. We have now produced videos for the Albany, Broome, Bunbury, and Dampier Port Authorities. If you would like more information about this video or how we could help make your production a reality please drop us a line. We here at GEO Media interactive would love to tell your story.

Lamby focusing on cameras at IBC 2015!

Cameras at IBC 2015

Panasonic and Carl

Lambys adventures continued with looking at some of the newly released 4k cameras at IBC 2015. Lamby showed particular interest in the upcoming offerings from Panasonic the AG-DVX200, Sony the PXW-FS7 and Australian manufacturer Black Magic design very own URSA Mini 4.6K (15 Stops of Dynamic range!!!).  These cameras, along with new drones and external monitor/recorders has got Mark M very keen indeed to sit down with Lamby and geek out over the upcoming video production tech.

Watch this space as when Lamby returns home here to GEO Media Interactive he will be giving a more in-depth look at his findings from IBC 2015, and Carl will be back too! To see What Carl and Lamby got up to at IBC previously click here!

The CB to IBC 2015!

The 2015 International Broadcast Convention, or IBC, is on again in Amsterdam and this year I (Carl) am making the trip for the first time. The convention provides an opportunity for manufacturers to showcase their latest offerings in technology – from acquisition, post, storage, and broadcast media platforms – anything to do with content really!

So what is it all about? The last 5 years has seen an explosion in the way content is delivered and viewed, as well as the roll out of new formats, including the never ending cycle of increasing resolution! With UHD/4K a reality for end users, talk is now of higher resolutions still and the compression techniques and formats to deliver them. I will be attending seminars and workshops across a spectrum of topics that involve our work now, and where we see it in the future.

From an production perspective, we have been creating and delivering UHD/4K content for nearly 2 years. This process saw us build and commission a new 4k edit suite in the form of an Avid Media Composer workstation that was equally capable of cutting as well as compositing. But this year it is the camera department’s turn and I will be getting hands on with Sony, Panasonic, Arri, Canon and Blackmagic’s 4k production camera lineup prior to purchase. Much to the envy of the two Marks.

In the software areas I’ll be visiting Avid (of course), Adobe, Lightworks and Blackmagic. Blackmagic’s “Resolve” software is rapidly gaining a reputation for editing as well as its more traditional colour correction role. This could see it join Avid as our #1 long form edit platform.

Then of course there are all the other manufactures and “toys” I’ll be looking at. Drones are big news right now, and our current 4K test platform will get superseded by a monster rig with production 4K acquisition in the next 12 months – with my own personal CASA certification.

So stay tuned – on my return I plan to write a series of articles on what I learn at IBC 2015!
