DFES and Peaceful Bay the GMi Way!

Last Friday saw GMi taking a quick trip down to Peaceful Bay in our states beautiful Great Southern Region to do a shoot for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).

The shoot was about recognizing the efforts of the Peaceful Bay Sea Rescue Group in a dramatic sea rescue operation over two days that they performed earlier in the year. The shoot was a lot of fun and Mark is looking forward to getting back into the both the Great Southern and the Southwest to further expand our library of drone vision!

Prescribed Burning videos go live!

GMi and the Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) have been working together recently to produce a series of short videos for social media platforms about DPaWs prescribed burning program.

The videos explore the history of fire in Western Australia, the action of fire on bushland, why and how the department carries out prescribed burns to protect communities and wildlife, and the landscape’s recovery from fire.

Bugging DEC’s science team!

Clare Bug hunt Department of Environment and Conservation GMi

The crew at GMi have stayed in touch with the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) scientists working on the Fire Mosaic research project near Walpole in the South West of WA.  Our youngest team member, Carl‘s daughter Clare, was invited to take part in the catching and classification of the bugs and became DEC’s youngest volunteer entomologist.

After spending a few days with the crew of science division Clare can boast finding 6, so far, unclassified species of moth, 1 new beetle and an all new wasp!
