GMi working with the community.

As you probably already know GMi has been working closely with community groups to help spread the word of the fantastic conservation projects they work on. We here at GMi are pleased to welcome the Leschenault Catchment Council to the growing number of groups we assist here in Western Australia.

They join our conservation clients list which also includes the Australian branch of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Department of Parks and Wildlife, and the Blackwood Basin Group (BBG). The BBG has just opened their latest conservation success to the public the creation of a wetlands haven at Schwenkes Dam.

This new wetland is part of the Priority Bittern and Waterbird Biodiversity Enhancement Project.

This has been and continues to be a fantastic project to work on and if you would like more information on this or any of the other projects we work on drop us a line here. Also keep an eye out on the ABCs’ Landline program, which will have a story about the BBG project (using of our vision) later this month.

Gorgeous Gorges! GMi takes another trip into the Kimberleys

Mark has continued GMi’s love of filming in the wonderful parks of the Kimberley Region of Western Australia. A recent trip saw Mark from GEO Media interactive (GMi) and a photographer from the Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) take a trip out along the Gibb River Road to film the parks of Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek, and Geikie Gorge.

Some of Marks highlights from the trip were getting up close to film crocodiles, the guided walking tour through Tunnel Creek, the amazing boat tour along the Geikie Gorge, and the drive itself allowing to see the many different sights and landscapes along the way. He has never seen so many Boab trees and Termite mounds before! The shoot also allowed us to give our new 4k camera a real test as the shooting conditions were quite varied.

It was a great trip and Mark is incredibly keen to get back up there to continue exploring the amazing parks of our great state with camera in hand! Before that though there is another trip to Dirk Hartog to complete, so keep your eyes peeled for a story on that soon!

Bushfire control with DPaW

Following on from the recent prescribed burning videos GMi produced for the Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) and used by commercial stations in programs such as Today Tonight, the team here at GMi and DPaW are working together again.

Mark recently spent a week embedded with the DPaW fire fighting teams. Based in the Perth Hills Mundaring office, Mark filmed the teams as they responded to fires, but also captured the important work the teams do when there are no fires. It’s not just maintaining their vehicles and equipment, it’s work like feral pest reduction programs, the rehabilitation of fire affected areas, and building bridges in our national parks.

Prescribed Burning videos go live!

GMi and the Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) have been working together recently to produce a series of short videos for social media platforms about DPaWs prescribed burning program.

The videos explore the history of fire in Western Australia, the action of fire on bushland, why and how the department carries out prescribed burns to protect communities and wildlife, and the landscape’s recovery from fire.

DPaW and Today Tonight working together to save the Woylie

Recently Today Tonight aired a story about the endangered Woylie and the fantastic work being done by the dedicated scientists at the Department of Parks and Wildlife. Using footage shot by the camera team here at GMi the story is a great way to spread the word about the plight of the Woylie.

GMi and DPaW (formerly DEC)

GMi have again been recently working with the Department of Parks and Wildlife or DPaW (formerly DEC) filming the plight of the critically endangered Woylie. The Woylie also known as the brush-tailed bettong, is an extremely rare small marsupial which was once found over most of Australia but is now found in only a handfull of places.

The crew here at GMi have been filming the stellar work being done by the teams at DPaW to try and bring the Woylie back from the brink of extinction. Filming has so far taken place at the Perup Wildlife Sanctuary near Manjimup which acts to keep an area predator free for the Woylies to breed in and in the Dryandra Woodlands near Narrogin with further filming to take place over the coming months.

GMi are thrilled to be working again with DPaW on yet another project, we love being a fly on the wall documenting the conservation of some of our nations most endangered species. Stay tuned for the release of our latest video done with the department: Operation Rangelands. A story about the Lorna Glen Sanctuary and the animals that are being brought back from the verge of ruin.
